Airports are usually about flights, but on select evenings at Bengaluru International Airport Ltd (BIAL), T2 arrival forecourt, a screen comes alive, and the airport transforms into an unex pected movie night under the stars. Hosted by Sunset Cinema Club, the open-air screenings invite people to sit back and spend an evening with bean bags, soft candlelight and the open night sky, replacing the usual airport hustle.
REIMAGINING THE MOVIE EXPERIENCE The idea behind the screenings, a spokesperson from BIAL says, was rooted in the simple pleasure of watching a film outdoors. “Watching a film under the open sky has a unique charm. It brings people together through shared moments of laughter, silence and emotion. By introducing open-air movie screenings, we want ed to bring that sense of pause and togetherness into the airport environment,” they share. “For us, the idea is to create a little bubble of calm within a busy environment without taking away from the essence of the airport,” says Sahil Kapoor, co- founder of Sunset Cinema Club.
A MICRO CITY FOR MANY “Bengaluru is a city that naturally gravitates towards culture and community experiences, from theatre and music to outdoor cinema. Terminal 2 was designed to feel intuitive, calming, and experience-led. Activations such as the open air movie screenings bring that philosophy to life. They allow us to use the terminal in thoughtful ways and show how an airport can participate in the cultural rhythm of the city rather than exist separately from it,” according to the spokesperson.
Bengaluru Airport already functions like a micro city, so it felt like a natural extension for us to introduce a curated film experience there. What excites us is to reimagine the airport not just as a place for transit but as a place of storytelling, culture and entertainment
